Hezekiahs Birth Story

Giving birth is such an intimate and spiritual event you will ever endure between you and your baby. Knowing that your baby God made inside of you is about to be born is a moment you will never forget.

As my son, Hezekiah’s, birth was approaching, I felt super hot and uncomfortable in the summer of July 2019. We waited for God’s perfect timing for Hezekiah’s arrival even if I went past my due-date. My midwife wanted to see me again to check my cervix, but I didn’t progress much and she ended up giving me an herbal supplement that went under my tongue. She said I will have the baby today! Hurray! At this point I wanted Hezekiah out of me as soon as possible. I was tired of waddling everywhere. Anyways, after leaving my midwifes office , I went home and went to the bathroom. There was a little spotting on the toilet paper! I immediately texted Beth around noon and she drove right over. My excitement grew knowing my sweet baby boy was about to be born! Prior to my day of giving birth, my midwife gave us a list of supplies that we needed to buy for the home-birth. Let the prepping begin!

We gave our midwife, Beth, and her assistant some food when they got to my apartment, and my contractions began to happen very easily. Beth already knew my contractions were so manageable. I am able to talk, walk and laugh while my body is contracting and in labor. How cool is that?! My midwife calls me blessed and I’m surely blessed indeed!

Hours passed, and I was not hungry. I laid down on my bed until I was to give birth. Sven made everyone pop corn and we ate it on my bed. My plan was to have my 15 month old daughter, Karis, watch her baby brother be born but it was time for her to go to bed. By the time is was 7:30pm at night, tears rolled down my face, I kissed her squishy cheeks one last time and said goodnight.

My contractions were getting more intense, and by the time it was 9pm at night, I was ready to push! I squeezed Sven’s hand while in the bathtub and on my bed. He’s so patient and supportive! I saw my son’s head peek through with the mirror Beth held. I wanted this to be over! With all the sweat, and grunts I finally delivered strong, big boy, Hezekiah on my bed at 9:43pm weighing a whopping 9 pounds, 12 oz, and 22.5 inch long baby! No stitches were needed.

After Hezekiah was born, Beth laid him on my chest, and I immediately nursed him. Beth’s face looked concerning so I asked her If everything is OK? She said “no, you’re hemorrhaging, a lot.” She then stuck her arm all the way in my uterus to try and stop the blood from gushing out anymore. The other hand she laid on my stomach and gently massaged it. Nothing was working so she frantically called 911. After the 10 second phone call ended, the only thing we could do was to pray! Pray that God would stop the bleeding. When we prayed I told God if he stops the bleeding I promise to raise Hezekiah to be a godly man that he created him to be. Within seconds after that prayer, we all heard knocking at the door and the excessive bleeding stopped! Hallelujah! Two ladies that were paramedics came barging in my bedroom with a roller bed thinking they were going to take me to the hospital. One of the paramedic ladies grabbed my arm without consent and tried to do her own thing. My midwife Beth, told them to leave because God stopped the bleeding! Behind them were three firefighters. Wow, they were all in my room surrounded by me. I was not prepared for all of them to see me half naked on my bed with a baby drinking milk from my boob. The firefighters looked like they were in another world with their eyes wide open and were trying so hard not to look at my lady parts. We told them we were fine and they said “well, congratulations on your new baby!” So they all fled after I signed the firefighters release form stating that they saw I was OK. I autographed the paper quickly while Sven was holding me tight.

After they left, I needed to urgently pee. I just pushed out a gigantic watermelon, and my body deserved a nice release from the bladder. The assistant, Linda, helped me get up from the bed, (even though Beth didn’t want me to), and as I was peeing with my eyes open, everything turned pitch black dark! “I can’t see, I can’t see” I exclaimed! Beth pushed me back onto the bed and told me to stay on the bed. Thankfully, the blood shot straight back into my brain and I was able to see again.

A hot dog sounded delicious after all that had happened. While Sven made me a hot dog, Beth stayed for a few hours and pumped my veins with salt water, (saline) to replenish the massive amount of blood I lost. Praise the Lord I was healthy and happy afterwards. My daughter slept so peacefully through it all and was eager to see Karis’ reaction to her new baby brother in the morning! Sven swaddled Hezekiah in a blue swaddle before seeing his big sister for the very first time. The three of them were in my room and Karis’ reaction was priceless! I videoed her reaction. She looked at him, had happy tears, and was smiling at him while giggling cute “oo-oo” sounds. Since day one, they have bonded so well and are to this day the best of friends!

My postpartum recovery was very easy, honestly. I started my workout routine a couple days after giving birth and I was perfectly healthy! To this day, I still talk about Hezekiah’s birth story because it’s one of many testimonies I have of God being right there with me, protecting and healing me. I still tear up even just thinking about it. Trusting in God is very important to me.
